Getting a new roof could be one of the most important, and valuable, investments you make on your house. Not only will it give your home a second life, but current roofing options are much more durable than they once were and are built to last for a long time.

However, if you want your job to go as smoothly as possible, there are some things that you can do to facilitate the contractor’s job and make sure that you get the results you were looking for without any issues. Here are a few things you should do to make sure you are prepared for when the roofing crew arrives.

Make Sure You have Waste Management Covered

If you have shingles on the roof, then be prepared to end up with much more waste than imagined. Shingles can easily add up and if you aren’t ready to deal with all that material, you’ll have a real mess on your hand. While some contractors will provide a roll off dumpster, it’s always better that you take care of it and rent a dumpster yourself.

Plenty of companies offer roll off dumpster of all sizes and you should get familiar with roll-off dumpster sizes to see which one would be right for your particular job. You also have to consider things like the types of shingles on your roof as well. For instance, tab shingles will usually be lighter, which will allow you to stay under weight limits. Architectural shingles, on the other hand, are much heavier and you might have to pay a lot in overcharges if you underestimate this, so make sure that you keep that in mind as well.

Make Sure there is Easy Access to the Roof

There’s no point in calling the roofers in if they can’t get to the roof in the first place. You also have to consider that roofing generates a lot of debris that will end up all around your house, so you have to be prepared for that as well. That’s why it’s essential that you clear any sidewalk or driveway around the house before the crew gets there. Make sure that you remove any cars or toys that might be in the driveway. And if you happen to have a patio space with furniture and a barbecue, consider either taking them inside your garage or tarping them to prevent any debris from damaging them.

Remove any Valuables from Your Attic

While a good roofing contractor will do everything in their power to reduce the total amount of debris and dust during the job, you can’t escape the fact that roofing is a messy job by nature and that you’ll have to deal with some level of it. That’s why it would be wise that you either cover any heirlooms or valuables you may have in your attic or move them to a safer part of your house.

Conclusion

Getting ready for a roofing job will ensure that everything goes well and that you don’t suffer damage to your property. Make sure that you follow these few simple tips if you want to facilitate your roofer’s job and get the results you expect.
